The contents of a letter written by Princess Diana just a few days after her wedding to Charles have been revealed. This has come to light thanks to a new and unique collection titled “Princess Diana’s Style and the Royal Collection”, presented by Julien’s Auctions. The collection features over 300 items that once belonged to the late princess.
Among the rare pieces offering a glimpse into Diana’s life is a personal letter she wrote to her footman, Mark Simpson, with whom she was quite close at the time. Martin Nolan, co-founder of Julien’s Auctions, says that Diana and Mark were about the same age, and he was someone she could truly open up to. In the letter, Diana shared how she felt in the days following her wedding. She thanked Mark for his work and kindness, saying that he made her stay at Buckingham Palace much more bearable.
“Your company made my stay much easier, because I was terribly lonely, and we laughed so much — I can’t thank you enough… Tomorrow I’m flying back to Britain, where there are so many men around… The bad news is, I didn’t eat a single bowl of cereal. According to Martin Nolan, the letter reveals that Diana’s early days within the royal family were far from joyful. However, her footman was a source of comfort and laughter for her.
