A Mother’s Fear: “I’ve Never Felt Anything Like It”
The video was recorded by Mims, the injured player’s mother, who was in the stands watching the game. She recounted the heart-stopping moment when she realized the player lying motionless on the field was her son.
“First was like, ‘Is that my son?’ And as soon as it clicked that it was, I couldn’t be stopped,” Mims told reporters. “I had to go down there. I’ve never felt anything like it. I’ve never been as upset or shaken up as I was over something for my son.”
Paramedics were quickly called to the field. Her son was transported to a nearby hospital, where medical staff determined that his spine had been broken in two places. After several days of monitoring and treatment, he was released and is now recovering at home.
