Neighbor Took Our Package, Used the Contents, and Wanted Us to Pay for the Scraps — I Found a Way to Teach Them a Lesson

Our renovation project began with excitement as Karen and I decided to redo our living room using a high-end, eco-friendly paint. The paint, which was both costly and highly anticipated, was scheduled to arrive by Tuesday.

Karen eagerly awaited its arrival, but on the day, the paint never showed up. Despite multiple checks and a call to the delivery company, which confirmed the paint was marked as delivered, there was no trace of it at our doorstep. I then visited our neighbors to see if they had received it by mistake, but no one had seen it.

Days later, Karen found a postcard from Mr. Jenkins, a neighbor, advertising extra eco-friendly paint for sale at a discount. Realizing it was our paint, Karen was outraged, and I decided to confront Mr. Jenkins.

When I arrived at his house and confronted him, Mr. Jenkins admitted that he had received our paint by mistake and had used some of it. He offered to sell the remaining paint to us at a price.

Seeing the cans of paint with our label in his garage, I was infuriated but chose not to argue further. I told him to keep the paint and left, feeling a mix of anger and defeat. Karen and I were disheartened by our inability to reclaim what was rightfully ours.

Weeks later, Mr. Jenkins proudly showcased his newly painted living room to the neighbors. However, his satisfaction was short-lived as his walls began to peel due to improper preparation. He later complained about the costly repairs required to fix the mess, which was compounded by the fact that the price of the paint had increased.

The neighborhood buzzed with news of Mr. Jenkins’ misfortune, and many felt he deserved it. Seeing him face the consequences of his deceit was a form of justice for us. Though we never got our paint back, the knowledge that Mr. Jenkins was paying for his dishonesty provided some satisfaction.
