Eighteen-year-old Ace Patton Ashford, a talented rodeo roper, tragically lost his life just weeks before achieving a lifelong goal.

A Devastating Accident

On August 12, Ace was unexpectedly killed while assisting a sick calf in Chilton, Texas, about 20 miles south of Waco. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. when a startled horse caused Ashford’s leg to become entangled, dragging him across an open field. Despite being found with a heartbeat and breathing, Ashford had sustained severe head injuries. He was airlifted to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A Promising Future Cut Short

Ashford was a skilled roper on the brink of reaching a lifelong dream. Having recently graduated from Rosebud-Lott High School, he was set to attend Hill College in the fall. His obituary highlights his deep passion for rodeo and Western life, stating, “Ace dedicated countless hours to roping to achieve his full potential.”

Remembering Ace

Ashford was well-loved by everyone who knew him. His obituary describes him as someone who “never met a stranger” and had “an old soul.” Tributes poured in on the obituary site, with many recalling Ace’s kindness, happiness, and readiness for the future. One tribute read, “Ace was an amazing young man! The sun shone brighter around him because he was so kind and happy.”

A Legacy in Rodeo

Born into a family of rodeo enthusiasts, Ashford had a strong connection to the sport. Both his parents were rodeo competitors, and he competed alongside his older brother Ross, a National Finals Qualifier. His girlfriend, Sydney Boatright, shared a heartfelt post on Facebook, writing, “I love you forever, Ace Patton,” under a picture of the two together.

Ace Patton Ashford’s passing is a heartbreaking loss, leaving behind a legacy of passion, kindness, and dedication to the rodeo community.
