ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ puppy lives in a shoebox; when animal heroes take her up, they uncover the horrific truth
It’s always difficult to see ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ dogs roaming the streets. When it comes to puppies, there are two aspects to consider. One story about a poor chihuahua-mix puppy truly touched me, so I thought I’d share it.
The little, ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ puppy had taken refuge in a small shoebox outside a house. It was close to a building and clearly a spot where the child felt pretty protected. After a while, the house owners spotted her and began providing her with enough food every day to keep her alive.
This carried on for several weeks, and two separate animal shelters were approached for information. What was the puppy doing all alone? Why had they ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ it?
Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte, from a local animal rights organization, took up the subject and began investigating. When they reached the puppy and brought her out of her crate, they realized she was missing a leg. The dog was obviously quite weak at this point and couldn’t move.
Hagar and Frankonyte moved the animal to their car and drove her to the veterinarian for a thorough examination. Princess, as she was known, was infested with fleas and unclean. She was immediately given shampoo to make her coat look beautiful and clean.
The vet felt there was something else wrong with the puppy besides her lost leg. Princess was found to have severe anemia. The situation was severe; Princess required constant monitoring and care. She got it as well.
Princess began to mend gradually after several weeks at the clinic and a protracted treatment period. She gradually battled back and eventually recovered!
Unfortunately, abandoning dogs in the state Princess was in is all too prevalent. In this case, we don’t know how the chihuahua ended out on the street.
What we can say is that humans who treat animals with such disrespect should never be allowed to care for them. Fortunately, there are animal lovers like Eldad and Loreta who go to great lengths to care for the creatures that others ignore. They deserve to be honored.
In any case, Princess is now in good hands, and that is all that matters. Let’s hope she gets a home where she can receive the love and attention she needs.
