The Survivor of Two Cities, Tsutomu Yamaguchi’s incredible survival of both atomic bombings in WWII.

One astonishing personal story that many find hard to believe is that of Tsutomu Yamaguchi, a Japanese man who survived both atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. On August 6, 1945, Yamaguchi was on a business trip in Hiroshima when the United States dropped the first atomic bomb on the city. Although he was only about 3 kilometers from ground zero, he managed to survive the explosion, albeit with severe burns.

After spending the night in the devastated city, Yamaguchi returned to his hometown of Nagasaki on August 9, the very day the second atomic bomb was dropped. While he was at work in Nagasaki, the bomb exploded, and once again, Yamaguchi survived the catastrophic event. His resilience through such unprecedented destruction is nothing short of extraordinary.

Yamaguchi not only endured both bombings but also lived a long life, passing away in 2010 at the age of 93. His survival of two atomic bombings remains an incredible testament to both the horrors of war and the indomitable strength of the human spirit.
