The Night We Saw Something Unexplainable, A night walk turned terrifying by an unexplained dark figure.

Back in the early ’90s, when I was a freshman in high school in La Crosse, Wisconsin, I had a chilling experience that I’ve shared only with a select few. One night, my friend Tom received a phone call informing him that a boy from my school had committed suicide. Overwhelmed with emotion, Tom admitted he had bullied the boy in middle school and was deeply remorseful. To clear our heads, we decided to sneak out for one of our usual night walks. We planned to go through the cemetery near the train tracks, but for some reason, we both felt an eerie sense that something wasn’t right and chose a different path instead.

As we walked down a quiet dead-end street, the air felt thick with an unexplainable tension. There were no cars in sight, which was odd for a weekend night. We were deep in conversation when, without warning, Tom and I both stopped. Slowly, we turned our heads toward a dark figure standing in a barren front yard. It was cloaked in dark robes, featureless, and eerily illuminated by an unknown light source. The figure didn’t acknowledge us at first, but when it did, it suddenly looked up, its presence chilling us to the bone. We panicked and ran, only to see another figure standing on a hill with its arms raised, blocking our path.

We bolted in a different direction, running for what felt like forever until we found ourselves collapsed in a courtyard of a neighborhood we didn’t recognize. Breathless and shaken, we sat in silence, unsure of what we had just experienced. The next day, I returned to the site, expecting to find an explanation—perhaps shadows or a misplaced object—but the yard was empty. To this day, Tom and I occasionally reflect on that night, still haunted by the mystery of what we saw.
