Jeopardy Coincidence

Jeopardy Coincidence, EX-GIRLFRIEND ON JEOPARDY; WIFE’S STRANGE COINCIDENCE. I had a serious, big-time love interest girlfriend I started dating near the end of college at Rutgers University, NJ. She had a year left in school while I was heading off to a faraway city. Five years later, I married someone else. My wife knew about my ex-girlfriend, but it wasn’t a hot topic between us. A few years after we married, an ex of my wife started appearing on national TV spots as a hunk. I got irritated as my wife called me into the room or shouted “There he is!” every time his ad ran.

Not long after, while watching Jeopardy at home during lunch, I saw a familiar face. The first name was familiar, but the last wasn’t. In the “chat portion,” the woman mentioned she had graduated from Rutgers (actually Douglass College, part of RU), and I realized it was my old girlfriend, now married. She won that day and was returning the next. I told my wife, who worked in Downtown DC, to find an appliance store with TVs for sale and check her out. It was payback time, and my old girlfriend was still quite attractive. My wife, being a good sport, agreed.

There was a store nearby, and my wife stood in front of a TV as Jeopardy was about to begin. Someone she knew casually from work came by, said hello, and started watching. Curious, she asked my wife if she was a Jeopardy fan. My wife said she was waiting to see what her husband’s old girlfriend looked like, as she was a contestant that day. “What a strange coincidence,” the attractive woman next to her said, “I’m on Jeopardy today… defending champion.” That’s right—my wife and my ex-girlfriend just happened to be working together and chose the same store to watch Jeopardy.
