As all of you may know, I was born in Mumbai, India; raised in PA, USA; and now I live in Mumbai. I came to Mumbai strictly on medical basis. You all probably know that I’m currently wheelchair bound. I’ve become a paraplegic. The only thing you don’t know is how it came about…

July 2006 is when I left from the states to go to Mumbai to visit my aunt. After staying there for 1 1/2 months, I came back to the states in August end. Just in time for my second year of high school to start. Suddenly after 3 weeks, I got a fever and a terrible headache. My parents took me to the doctor and the doctor prescribed me over the counter medicine. That made no difference.

After many years of physical therapy, I can walk now with the help of a walker and calipers. The only ironic thing about this story is that, when my mom was pregnant, her due date was on the 5th of October, but I was born early. I was in a coma for 23 days. And honestly, I really thank god for putting me through this. If I didn’t go through something like this, I would’ve never appreciated my mom and her strength. Everyone, including my dad knew that I wasn’t going to make it. My mom didn’t know this, and she kept fighting for me. I now understand why people say “since god can’t go everywhere, he created a mother”. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
