I didn’t know where my life was heading. Every day, I was sinking deeper into a pit of self-destruction. I had multiple addictions, alcoholism, and a complete lack of self-worth. There was no sense of hope or purpose; I was simply existing. I didn’t care if I lived or died. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually, I was at rock bottom, and the pain seemed endless.

But then, recovery happened. I found a spark through AA, which brought people into my life who genuinely cared. They helped me see that there was something worth fighting for. I left behind my old life as a bartender and discovered massage therapy—a job that became my passion and saved me. Along the way, I picked up new hobbies: I became a gardener, an athlete, an artist. Each step I took in recovery brought me closer to who I really am. I began to rebuild not just my life but my soul.

Now, 44 years sober, my life is full of joy, purpose, and connection. The darkness that once consumed me is a distant memory, replaced by light. Recovery didn’t just save me—it gave me a life worth living. And as I continue to grow, I’ve learned that the journey never really ends. Every day, I wake up grateful, ready to see what new wonders life has in store for me.
