A Girl Born Without Nose, Who Was Called “Voldemort”, Proved Everyone Is Beautiful in Their Own Way
This young girl, affectionately nicknamed “Voldemort” due to her unique appearance, stands out because she was born without a nose.

Tessa was born with a rare condition called complete congenital arhinia, which means she does not have a nose.
This uncommon anomaly affects only a handful of people worldwide and has presented Tessa with distinct challenges from birth.
Nevertheless, she refuses to let her condition define her, embracing life with remarkable enthusiasm. Arhinia occurs when the nose fails to develop in the womb, resulting in its absence. In Tessa’s case, the condition also means she lacks the olfactory system, the brain region responsible for detecting smells. Despite these obstacles, Tessa’s parents have always seen her as a beautiful and extraordinary child.
When Grainne and Nathan Evans learned through an ultrasound that their unborn daughter would be born without a nose, they experienced a mix of emotions. Five months into the pregnancy, they faced the unexpected news but committed themselves to providing Tessa with the best possible care and support.
Tessa’s journey has involved numerous medical procedures and surgeries. Shortly after her birth, she was placed in the intensive care unit and underwent a tracheotomy to assist with breathing. At just eleven months old, she had cataract surgery, adding to the early challenges she faced.
Two years later, Tessa had cosmetic surgery to implant prostheses under her skin, setting the stage for constructing an artificial nose in the future. Her parents made the difficult decision to proceed with these surgeries, viewing them as opportunities to gradually enhance Tessa’s appearance and make her profile more “normal.” This process included bone and skin grafts, typically recommended during adolescence when facial growth is complete.
Despite the physical challenges she has endured, Tessa’s spirit remains unyielding. She has adapted to life without a nose, breathing through her mouth and living without the sense of smell that most people take for granted. Tessa’s joy and zest for life are a testament to her determination to live fully.
“Tessa has exceeded everyone’s expectations,” Grainne said. “She walks into any room and lifts the mood, making everyone happy,” Nathan added.
