When Your Dream Job Keeps You Waiting, ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN B READY!, This year taught me the hard way that no matter how sure you are about Plan A, you always need a Plan B. This year taught me the hard way that no matter how sure you are about Plan A, you always need a Plan B. I got selected for a government position after passing a big recruitment exam, and I thought my life was set. Once I saw my name on the list, I believed I’d be starting my job within a couple of months, just like everyone else from past cycles. I was so confident that I didn’t apply for any more jobs or take any other interviews.

I even skipped a final interview for another role that could have landed me a solid position as a law enforcement officer in a different state. But here I am, over six months later, and still waiting for that job offer to come through. The process has been delayed because of legal holdups, and it could be tied up for months or even years. The next time I could even start looking for jobs would be the middle of 2024, and that feels so far away.

Every day, I think about how I should have kept my options open. I should have gone to that interview or applied for a few more positions while I waited. Now, instead of starting my dream job, I’m stuck with nothing but uncertainty, regret, and a lesson learned the hard way: even when you think you’re set, you have to prepare for things to go wrong.
