A Conversation with Grandpa’s Spirit, LOVE TRANSCENDS TIME AND SPACE, FOREVER CONNECTED, About ten years ago, I was sitting in my room, reading a book, when I heard a male voice say, “Hey.” Confused, I looked around but saw no one. About ten years ago, I was sitting in my room, reading a book, when I heard a male voice say, “Hey.” Confused, I looked around but saw no one. Returning to my book, the voice came again, asking, “What book are you reading?” I told him the title, and he responded enthusiastically, asking if I had ever read 1984. At the time, I hadn’t, and he praised it as a great read. His name was Thomas, and we talked briefly about books and writing. Then, he said he had to go, so we said goodbye.

A few years later, my mom was clearing out the attic when she found a copy of 1984, open to page 193. She mentioned that it had been my dad’s favorite book. That’s when everything clicked. The voice I had spoken to all those years ago—it was my grandpa Thomas. He had passed away a year before our “conversation” took place, and it dawned on me that I had spoken with his spirit.

To this day, I cherish that moment. It was as though my grandpa reached across time and space just to have one more conversation. He reminded me of his love for literature and, more importantly, of his love for me. Even in death, his presence lingers, connecting us in ways I never imagined. Love you, Grandpa.
