We have a family ghost, and I’m not kidding—his name is Charlie. Back when I was between 3 and 5 years old, Charlie was a regular in our home. He wasn’t a relative, but an elderly man who became part of our extended family. He’d show up with candy and toys for all of us kids and always had a smile. He was kind, loving, and fit right in. When Charlie passed away, it was my first experience with death, and we all missed him deeply. Little did we know, Charlie never really left.

Charlie had a playful side, and after he passed, we started noticing strange things happening. Objects would disappear and reappear in the oddest places, like coins balanced impossibly high or items moved to different rooms. He loved playing pranks, just like he did when he was alive. I remember sitting on my parents’ bed one day, telling them it was Charlie playing tricks. As if to prove me right, a shoe lifted into the air, flipped, and then gently landed back in its place. That’s when we knew for sure—Charlie was still with us.

Now, 25 years later, Charlie is still part of the family. Anytime something goes missing, we just ask Charlie to return it, and soon enough, it’ll show up in the most obvious spot. He’s been with us through everything, and in his own way, he still watches over us with that same playful, loving spirit.
