We first crossed paths in high school. He was a senior bully, and I was an outspoken freshman. Without speaking a word, we both knew we didn’t get along. Years passed, and we ran into each other again at a friend’s house. A few drinks later, we laughed about our school days, realizing we had grown into completely different people. That night, something changed between us, and we both felt it.
The next day, he had to leave for a mission, but before he left, he called me “Trouble,” saying he couldn’t stop thinking about me. What followed was nearly three years of constant texts, calls, and travel adventures. During a trip to the Philippines, he surprised me by making me skydive. I didn’t even know until five minutes before the jump! When I landed, he was waiting with a ring, music playing, and a huge smile on his face. He proposed right there on the runway.
Months later, during the COVID-19 lockdown, he woke up one Saturday morning and texted, “Want to get married tomorrow?” I thought he was joking, but he wasn’t. We had a simple living room wedding with a few friends on Zoom, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
