The Vanishing Aisle.

The Vanishing Aisle, During a routine grocery trip, a simple mention of a mess in aisle 11 leads to confusion when the clerk insists there is no such aisle, leaving the shopper questioning their own reality.

As I pushed my cart toward the checkout, the familiar clatter of shopping carts and the soft hum of the store enveloped me. The fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting a sterile glow on the colorful array of groceries I had collected. I felt a sense of satisfaction as I approached the register, ready to complete my weekly ritual. The clerk, a young woman with bright pink hair and a friendly smile, greeted me as I unloaded my items onto the conveyor belt. “Hey there! How’s your day going?” she asked, scanning my groceries with practiced ease.“Pretty good! Just trying to get everything done before the weekend,” I replied, glancing around the store. “By the way, there’s a mess in aisle 11. You might want to send someone to clean it up.”The clerk paused, her brow furrowing in confusion. “Aisle 11? We don’t have an aisle 11,” she said, looking genuinely puzzled.

I blinked, taken aback. “What do you mean? I’m pretty sure I saw it earlier when I was shopping. It was right next to aisle 10.”She shook her head slowly. “Nope, we only have ten aisles here. It’s been that way for years.”My heart raced as I tried to process her words. Had I really imagined an entire aisle? I could still picture it vividly in my mind—a chaotic scene with spilled cereal boxes and a scattering of fruit. “Are you sure? It was definitely there,” I insisted, feeling a strange sense of disbelief. The clerk shrugged apologetically. “I promise you, there’s no aisle 11. Maybe it was just a weird angle or something?”

I felt a chill run down my spine. Had I lost my grip on reality? As I finished paying for my groceries and walked out of the store, the unsettling thought lingered in my mind: if there was no aisle 11, then what had I really seen? The world felt slightly askew, and the mundane act of grocery shopping had turned into a puzzling mystery that left me questioning my own perception.
