Tourists couldn’t believe their eyes! What the waves brought to the shore
Tourists on the Romanian coast were left stunned when a wounded dolphin washed ashore. The mammal, identified as a Delphinus delphis (common dolphin), was found with multiple injuries likely caused by fishermen’s nets. Despite efforts to rescue it, the dolphin did not survive.
In the Black Sea, three species of marine mammals are found: the common dolphin, bottlenose dolphin, and harbor porpoise. The common dolphin is particularly sensitive to pollution and prefers offshore areas, while the other two species inhabit coastal zones. These dolphins are known for their speed, reaching up to 50 km/h, and their social behavior, often forming groups of 10-15 individuals. They are highly dependent on fish and crustaceans, with a daily diet of approximately 10 kg.
The common dolphin is distinguished by its bluish-gray to brown color, with a V-shaped light marking on its side. It can grow up to 2 meters long and has a lifespan of 25-30 years. They typically give birth to a calf every 2-3 years, with a gestation period of 10 months.
