Couple finds old cave on property and turns it into enchanting 1,500 sq ft home

Amy and Bryant, a couple from Ohio, discovered an ancient cave on their property and decided to transform it into a unique 1,500 sq. ft. home for their family of five. The ambitious project took seven months and required expert help from a geologist and engineer to ensure safety. Despite the challenges, they kept costs low by using natural materials found nearby, embracing eco-friendly design principles. The home features a mostly glass front wall to capture sunlight and take advantage of solar heating, with the natural rock providing excellent insulation.
Inside, the cave house blends modern comfort with gothic elements. The dining room includes a custom table, and the kitchen boasts black cabinets with a gothic arch-shaped range hood. The living room is cozy, with vintage bookshelves and space for pool. The master bedroom includes a king-sized bed and moss-covered walls, while the “wine room” for their daughters has deep red walls and Murphy beds. The bathrooms are luxurious, with one featuring a clawfoot tub and a rock-formed shower. The couple’s creative vision has resulted in a one-of-a-kind home that inspires others to think outside the box.
