Target Announces They Will Be Paying Starting Wages Up To $24/Hour

Target has announced a significant increase in its starting pay, offering up to $24 per hour for its retail workers, outpacing competitors like Amazon and Costco. This pay rise builds on the retailer’s commitment to higher wages, which began in 2017 when it first implemented a $15 minimum wage. The new pay scale, however, will depend on factors like location and job role, and not all employees will automatically receive the increase.
In addition to higher wages, Target is improving healthcare access for its workers. Previously, employees needed to work at least 30 hours per week to qualify for benefits, but this threshold has been reduced to 25 hours, and the waiting period for coverage has also been shortened. Target’s CEO, Brian Cornell, emphasized the importance of staying competitive and meeting the needs of employees, with Chief HR Officer Melissa Kremer noting the company’s ongoing investment in its workforce’s well-being and career development. These changes are part of a broader strategy to continue attracting and retaining top talent across its 1,900 U.S. stores.
