Farmer found a ‘Huge Egg’ under a chicken – when he saw what came out of it, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
A farmer in north Queensland, Scott Stockman, discovered an extraordinary egg laid by one of his hens at Stockman’s Eggs farm. The egg, weighing 6.2 ounces and three times the size of a regular egg, was a rare find. However, what made it even more fascinating was what was inside: another perfectly formed egg. The phenomenon, known as a “babushka egg,” occurs when a hen produces an egg but doesn’t lay it immediately. The following day, a new ovum is released and forms around the previous day’s egg, creating a double-layered shell.
Associate Professor Raf Freire from Charles Sturt University explained that this unusual occurrence happens when the hen’s body mistakenly forms a shell around both eggs. Despite the oddity, the egg was perfectly safe to eat, although Stockman, who processes 50,000 eggs daily, decided not to keep it. The discovery of the double egg is a rare and remarkable event in the world of poultry farming, and Scott shared the image of this peculiar find with the public, marveling at the rare occurrence.
