A woman asked on Facebook what was the bizarre “crust” that appeared on the bed in her room. No one was able to figure it out.

A woman in Hampshire discovered a bizarre “crust” on her bed in a rarely used spare room, which was later identified as a massive wasp nest. The nest, which spanned 3 feet wide and 1.5 feet deep, had been growing for several months. It contained up to 5,000 wasps and had chewed through the mattress and pillows. The woman hadn’t used the room for some time, and the nest had developed after a window was left open.
Pest controller John Birkett, called to remove the nest, was shocked by its size, noting that in 45 years of experience, he had never seen anything like it. He estimated there were around 700 queen wasps among the colony. After dressing in protective gear, Birkett used a spray to clear the wasps, though he expressed regret at having to destroy such a remarkable work of nature. Despite this, the homeowner insisted on its removal. Birkett also managed to save the woman’s beloved blanket.
