A 32-year-old woman, identified as Mandy K, was severely injured in a polar bear attack at the Berlin Zoo on October 11, 2024. During feeding time, Mandy K climbed over a fence, a line of hedges, and a wall to enter the polar bear enclosure. As she jumped into the cage, one of the polar bears attacked her, causing significant injuries to her arms, legs, and back. Zoo staff and emergency responders quickly intervened to rescue her. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. The zoo is investigating how the woman was able to breach the barriers, and authorities have reminded the public of the danger in entering animal enclosures, especially those housing large predators like polar bears. The incident highlights the risks associated with inappropriate behavior around wild animals in captivity.
