Tattooed ‘real-life vampire’ issues warning to others
Maria José Cristerna, known as the “real-life vampire,” holds the Guinness World Record for the most body modifications, including tattoos, piercings, implants, and a split tongue. Her striking appearance symbolizes her journey of self-expression and healing from an abusive, decade-long marriage. Starting her transformation at 14, Cristerna turned her body into a canvas to reflect her escape and newfound resilience.
Despite her pride in her modifications, she offers caution to those considering similar paths. Tattoos and extreme body art are permanent, she warns, urging young people to think carefully. “You have to love it and defend it your whole life,” Cristerna says. Her own modifications have included challenging and painful processes, like eye pigmentation and arm implants, each with deep meaning.
Cristerna remains undeterred by critics, focused on self-love and covering 100% of her body in tattoos. “The only way to escape from violence and abuse is by loving yourself,” she shared in an interview with Guinness World Records. While she continues to push boundaries, she emphasizes the need for thoughtful, lifelong commitment when it comes to body modifications.
