The pregnant sow went into labor, had a high fever, and they thought she would die.
When Emma the pig arrived at Apricot Lane Farm, she was in critical condition—weak, sick, and heavily pregnant. Veterinarians didn’t have much hope for her survival, expecting she’d give birth to no more than six piglets. However, Emma defied the odds, delivering an incredible 17 piglets, with 13 surviving.
Exhausted and feverish from the labor, Emma struggled to care for her litter. Farm owner Chester feared for her life and decided to remove the piglets to help her recover. However, without her babies, Emma’s condition worsened rapidly. Chester, desperate, returned the piglets to her, and something miraculous happened: upon being reunited with her young, Emma’s health began to improve. Slowly, she regained strength, stood up, and began eating again.
Chester marveled at the transformation and reflected, “She was saved by her calling—to be a mother. Sometimes, what threatens us most holds the power to heal.” Emma’s story became a testament to the power of motherhood and the unexpected ways in which strength can emerge in the face of hardship.
