Denzel Washington subtly announces retirement during Australian interview

Denzel Washington, 69, has subtly hinted at retirement during an interview on Australia’s Today show, revealing that his future in Hollywood may not be as long as many hoped. “I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. Probably not that many,” he said. Washington’s upcoming projects include reprising his role as Othello, a character he first portrayed at age 22, and possibly collaborating with directors Steve McQueen and Ryan Coogler, with Coogler reportedly writing a role for him in the next Black Panther film. He also mentioned the possibility of starring in King Lear. However, he teased that after completing these projects, he would likely retire.
Washington’s illustrious career began in 1977 with the TV movie Wilma, followed by his feature debut in Carbon Copy (1981). He became one of Hollywood’s most respected actors through memorable performances in Glory, Training Day, and Malcolm X, earning numerous accolades. Earlier this year, he expressed interest in Gladiator II, though he emphasized that he’s now only interested in roles that inspire him.
