In 1992, Judy Sharp, 61, from Brisbane, was trapped in an abusive marriage to Mick, a controlling husband. Despite his constant jealousy and manipulative behavior, Judy stayed for the sake of their children. One evening, Mick took a photo of her with their sons and told her, “It’s the last night you’re going to live…” as part of his emotional abuse. Fearing for her life, Judy escaped the next morning with her boys, even though they faced major challenges, including finding housing that would accept her son Tim, who had severe autism. With only a small amount of money, they managed to secure a home and start anew.
Over time, Judy rebuilt her life, raising her children with love and kindness. Today, her sons, Sam and Tim, have grown into successful, happy adults. Judy works in a job she loves and has a peaceful home. She shares her story annually to help others in similar situations, emphasizing that domestic violence is never acceptable and that there is always hope for a better future.
