Pet owners rejoice! Virgin Airlines has announced plans to let pets fly in the cabin, making travel easier for animal lovers. If successful, Virgin would be the first Australian airline to allow in-cabin pet travel, inspired by a 2021 survey where 85% supported the idea, and 57% said they’d fly more often with pets allowed.
CEO Jayne Hrdlicka expressed excitement, stating that the airline has always valued animals and aims to make in-cabin pet travel a reality, similar to North American carriers. Assistance animals will still fly free, and only small dogs and cats, able to fit under seats, will be permitted in special carriers.
Although questions arose about pet allergies among passengers, Virgin assured the public that they’re developing strict rules to minimize any impact.
