Turning 100 is a major milestone, and for former President Jimmy Carter, it’s an even more special one as he becomes the oldest former president in history. To mark this occasion, Carter was honored in multiple ways.
Though the official celebration didn’t fall on his birthday, a concert was held at the Fox Theater in Atlanta on October 1, 10 days before his birthday. Unfortunately, Carter, who has been in hospice care for 19 months, wasn’t able to attend in person, but he celebrated surrounded by friends and family.
A military flyover was part of the tribute to Carter, a gesture captured in the video below. His grandson reflected on the significance of the occasion, saying, “Not everybody gets 100 years on this earth, and when somebody does, and when they use that time to do so much good for so many people, it’s worth celebrating.”
With the Secret Service by his side—many of whom have been protecting him for nearly 50 years—Carter spent the day with loved ones, marking a century of life and service.
