The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has claimed the lives of over 200 people, including young siblings Derrick, 4, and Harmony, 7, from Georgia. The Taylor family was home on September 26, 2024, waiting for the storm’s arrival. As they tried to stay safe, the storm’s intensity grew.
Crystal Taylor, their mother, was watching a reality show with their 11-year-old child, Cassidy, while keeping an eye on weather updates. Her husband, Herbert, was sleeping in the bedroom with the younger children when the storm hit. As the winds grew stronger, Herbert went outside and saw the cover of his truck lifted by the wind. Before he could return to the bedroom, an oak tree fell on the house, starting a fire.
Crystal and Cassidy ran for safety, and Cassidy called 911. The responders arrived, but the oak tree blocked their way to the children. Tragically, Derrick and Harmony passed away instantly. The family has received financial support through GoFundMe, which has raised over $65,000 of its $100,000 goal.
