Jordan Seidhom, a South Carolina rescue helicopter pilot and volunteer firefighter, flew numerous missions after Hurricane Helene to aid victims in North Carolina. On one mission, Seidhom was informed of a flight restriction and threatened with arrest if he continued flying. During this mission, he had left his son with a stranded victim on a mountain. Although he was going to return to rescue both, the official forced him to abandon the mission. After the restriction was lifted, Seidhom felt frustrated, believing the official’s decision jeopardized lives. Both Seidhom and the Carolina Emergency Response Team criticized the action, which they felt was dangerous for those awaiting rescue.
