Birthdays are a time for celebration, and few deserve it more than Edith “Edie” Recagno Keenan Ceccarelli, America’s oldest living citizen, who has turned 116. Residing in the small town of Willits, California, Edie is not only the oldest person in the U.S. but also the second oldest in the world.
To honor this incredible milestone, her hometown is throwing a grand celebration. While Edie’s birthday officially falls on February 5, the festivities will kick off on Sunday, February 4. The highlight of the event is a lively parade, featuring Boy Scouts, first responders, and community members driving decorated cars past her assisted living facility, complete with flags, balloons, and heartfelt signs.
Suzanne Picetti, the lead organizer, shared her excitement: “Every year, we make sure Edie knows how special she is.” Even Edie looks forward to enjoying strawberry ice cream and carrot cake on her big day.
The town of Willits has celebrated Edie’s birthdays for years, uniting the community in joy. Suzanne summed it up perfectly: “It’s a chance to honor an extraordinary life and spread happiness throughout the town.”
