Ellen DeGeneres, 66, has always been known for her humor, even in the face of personal challenges. Recently, she opened up about a triple diagnosis she received after stepping back from show business, sharing her struggles with aging, mental health, and physical ailments.
The comedian revealed her battle with osteoporosis, a condition that causes brittle bones, explaining the severe pain she endured before being diagnosed. Initially thought to be arthritis, it turned out to be much more complicated. Ellen candidly discussed how aging impacts her, joking, “I’m like a human sandcastle. I could disintegrate in the shower.”
Ellen also addressed her mental health, disclosing diagnoses of OCD and ADHD. Growing up in a Christian Science household, discussions about disorders were absent, which made understanding her condition challenging. She reflected on her upbringing and possible hereditary OCD, recalling how her father obsessively checked doorknobs and appliances.
Despite her struggles, Ellen maintains her humor and perspective, saying, “I think I’m well-adjusted because I obsess on things, but I don’t have the attention span to stick with it. It all balances out.”
Through it all, Ellen emphasizes self-awareness and resilience: “What other people think of me is none of my business. You know the truth, and that’s all that matters.”
