While I was away on a business trip right before Halloween, I asked my neighbor, Sandy, to look after my cat. When I returned home early on Halloween night, I was shocked to find that Sandy had taken my Halloween decorations and put them up on her own house. Rather than confront her directly, I decided to take a creative approach to get back at her.
I went to a store and bought red and black paint, then sneaked over to her house in the dark. There, I wrote a bold message on her white fence: “I STEAL MY NEIGHBOR’S DECORATIONS TO WIN A PRIZE FOR THE BEST DECORATED HOUSE!” The next day, the neighborhood judges came by to evaluate the decorations, and when they saw my message, they were confused. The judges later awarded me the prize for Best Decorated House, much to Sandy’s anger.
I had my moment of Halloween revenge while enjoying the outcome, and as a bonus, the judge gave me a knowing smile, hinting that Sandy had learned a lesson about permission.
