Tamayo Perry, a beloved 49-year-old lifeguard and former professional surfer from Hawaii, tragically died after a shark attack while paddling to Malaekahana (Goat Island) off Oahu’s North Shore. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on a Sunday, while Perry was on his lunch break. Fellow surfers initially assisted in bringing him back to shore, where he was later pronounced dead. Perry, known for his infectious personality, was a legend on the North Shore and a globally recognized surfer. In addition to his surfing career, he had small roles as a stunt performer and actor in films like Blue Crush and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Following his death, shark warning signs were posted at the beach, and tributes poured in from local officials, including Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi, who called Perry “a legendary waterman.”
