James Gregory, known as “The Funniest Man in America,” passed away at the age of 78 due to cardiac complications. His family confirmed his death on May 9, describing him as a source of laughter and joy who left a lasting impact on comedy. Born in 1946 in Lithonia, Georgia, James began working at his family’s grocery store at age 11. He later served as a postman and joined the US Marines, but was medically discharged. After 18 years in sales, he transitioned to comedy at 36 and became a beloved stand-up performer in the southeastern US. His career spanned 41 years, including tours for US troops. James’s autobiography will be published in November.
