A man named Neville Linton, 63, had a shocking experience after buying a bag of broccoli from an Aldi supermarket in Stourbridge, England. Three days after purchasing it, he discovered a snake inside the bag while preparing the vegetable. Initially thinking it was a caterpillar, Linton soon realized it was a snake, which his sister identified as a reptile. He took the snake to the supermarket, and it was later identified as a young ladder snake, though expert Dr. Steven J.R. Allain speculated it might be a viperine water snake. The snake likely came from southwestern Europe, where it was accidentally included in the broccoli shipment. Linton, who is phobic of snakes and lives with vulnerable family members, demanded compensation, feeling the store’s offer was insufficient given the potential danger. Aldi apologized and is investigating the incident, emphasizing their robust quality control processes.
