Vienna Brookshaw, born in April 2021 in the UK, was diagnosed with congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN), a rare birthmark affecting one in 20,000 babies. The birthmark, located between her eyebrows, posed no physical risks but her mother, Celine Casey, worried about its potential impact on Vienna’s mental health as she grew older. Determined to ensure Vienna wouldn’t feel different, Casey sought surgery to remove the birthmark.
Although the NHS initially denied funding, labeling the surgery as non-essential, Casey turned to crowdfunding and successfully raised the necessary funds within 24 hours. However, unexpected hospital costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic led to additional fundraising efforts.
The surgery was a success, and Vienna, now two years old, has only a minor scar. Her recovery is monitored by doctors, and she’s thriving like any other child. Casey shares Vienna’s journey on social media, receiving strong support from followers. With the birthmark no longer a concern, Vienna’s happiness and confidence continue to grow.
