It was a regular day when I sent my husband a picture of me with our neighbor’s horse, Thunder. I had been helping out at the stables for a while and had grown quite fond of the big black horse. He was gentle, despite his size, and I thought nothing of the photo I sent him.
But then everything changed. After looking at the picture closely, my husband zoomed in and sent me a cold text: “I want a divorce.”
I thought he was joking at first, but when he called, I could hear the anger in his voice.
“How long has this been happening?” he demanded.
Confused, I asked, “What do you mean?”
“The shadow,” he said sharply. “The shadow on your back—don’t lie to me.”
That’s when I realized what he had seen. The horse’s shadow had fallen on my back, creating the illusion of a man standing behind me with his hands around my waist.
No matter how hard I tried to explain, he wouldn’t believe me. The picture had distorted reality just enough to make him doubt everything. His trust had been broken, and nothing I said could change his mind.
