
Orlando’s mayor is intensifying security measures in the city’s entertainment district following a Halloween night shooting that left two people dead and several injured. The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. on Friday, where a 17-year-old suspect, Jaylen Edgar, allegedly opened fire in a crowded area, resulting in chaos as partygoers fled.The victims, identified as Timothy Schmidt Jr., 19, and Tyrek Hill, 25, were among the crowd celebrating Halloween festivities that attracted approximately 75,000 attendees. In total, nine others were injured, some critically. Edgar was apprehended by police shortly after the shootings, having passed by multiple officers before firing his weapon.In response to the violence, Mayor Buddy Dyer declared a local state of emergency, enforcing a curfew from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. and prohibiting alcohol sales after midnight until November 8. Edgar has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder. The motive for the shooting remains unknown as investigations continue.
