Tyka Nelson, the younger sister of music legend Prince, has passed away at the age of 64. Her death was confirmed by her son, President Nelson, on November 4, although no specific cause was disclosed. Tyka, known for her own musical career, released four albums between 1988 and 2011 and was preparing for a retirement concert that she ultimately could not attend due to health issues. Her cousin, Charles “Chazz” Smith, expressed the family’s sadness on social media, stating, “Our family is very saddened to share the news of my cousin Tyka Evene Nelson who passed away this morning.” Born in Minneapolis to jazz musician parents, Tyka carved her own path in the music industry while remaining closely connected to Prince’s legacy after his death in 2016.

In a June interview, she reflected on aging and her musical journey, saying, “I really wasn’t a singer. I’m a writer. I just happen to be able to sing.” Tyka is survived by her husband and six children, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with her brother’s influence and artistry.
