The letter, labeled a “roommate contract,” outlined the expenses Aaron would need to cover if he wanted to live like an adult—rent, utilities, and internet access. She also required him to assist with housework and prepare his own meals. Johnson clarified, “It should be easier for you to pay back for everything I’ve bought for you now that you’re earning money.”
Aaron initially crumpled the note and stormed off but later returned, asking how to regain his privileges. He even handed over some of his belongings, realizing the real-world costs were beyond his means.
The post sparked widespread debate. Supporters praised her parenting style, while critics accused her of public shaming. Johnson defended her actions, stating, “Teenagers need to learn boundaries as they navigate adulthood.”
