A recent and alarming incident involving a sea lion has gone viral after a video showed the animal pulling a young girl into the water. The girl, the daughter of a famous personality, was sitting on a dock at Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf in Richmond, British Columbia, when the sea lion lunged at her, likely mistaking her white dress for food. It grabbed her dress and pulled her into the water but released her shortly afterward.Fortunately, an adult nearby jumped in to assist the girl, who emerged soaking wet but unharmed. Experts suggest that the sea lion’s behavior was not aggressive but rather a result of confusion, as it may have been attracted to the movement of her dress. Andrew Trites, a marine mammal expert, emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe distance from wild animals like sea lions.

The girl is currently receiving precautionary antibiotic treatment to prevent “seal finger,” a bacterial infection that can be transmitted from these animals to humans. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of interacting closely with wildlife.
