The debate over whether Coca-Cola tastes better in glass bottles was put to the test in a blind taste test involving eight editors. Coca-Cola from a can, plastic bottle, and glass bottle were sampled. Six editors felt the can had the most carbonation, with one describing it as the ideal Coke taste. The plastic bottle was described as having a metallic flavor and more fizz, while the glass bottle was noted for its syrupy sweetness. Despite many Southerners claiming glass bottles enhance taste, the results were surprising: the can was the preferred choice by a narrow margin, with the glass bottle coming second. Coca-Cola maintains that the formula is the same across containers, yet the perception of taste varies by packaging.
