Savannah Combs, a 23-year-old woman from Florida, recently gave birth to a rare set of identical twins, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman, who were born with Down syndrome. The twins, who share a placenta but have separate sacs, are classified as “mono-di” twins, a rare occurrence even without the added complexity of Down syndrome.
Savannah’s journey with her pregnancy was filled with challenges. She was advised to abort her babies due to their condition, but she chose to give them a chance. Despite being born prematurely at 28 weeks in May 2021, the twins spent several weeks in the NICU before being able to come home.
Savannah has shared their journey on TikTok, where her daughters have gained a following. Despite facing criticism from some, Savannah defends her daughters, saying they are just as precious and capable as any other children. “They’re feisty and happy,” she says, and she believes they will achieve great things as they grow.
This heartwarming story is a testament to the power of love and acceptance.
