In a candid interview with The Guardian, Smokey Robinson opened up about his deep friendship with Diana Ross, which turned romantic for a year while he was still married to his first wife, Claudette Rogers. The iconic singer described the relationship as beautiful, noting that it occurred while they were working together in the music industry.
Robinson and Ross, who have known each other since childhood, grew even closer when Ross and her family moved to the same neighborhood as Robinson’s family. Despite the longstanding friendship, their romantic involvement happened naturally, without either of them pursuing it actively.
Robinson shared that the affair ended when Ross realized she could not continue because of her respect for Claudette and her knowledge of Robinson’s ongoing love for his wife. Reflecting on the experience, he spoke about the complexity of love, acknowledging that people can love more than one person at a time, even though society often views it as taboo.
Robinson also laughed off rumors suggesting he and Ross were Michael Jackson’s biological parents, denying the absurd claim.
