A 25-year-old woman shared her experience of being publicly humiliated at her in-laws’ family dinner when she brought a dish prepared from her late mother’s recipes. Upon presenting the dish, her mother-in-law harshly demanded she “get [her] mother’s food out of [her] house,” leading the woman to leave in tears. After waiting for an hour in the car, her husband, who had not noticed her absence or the humiliation, casually mentioned a joke made by a relative, showing no empathy for her feelings. The woman, who had only met her mother-in-law a few times, was hurt by the disrespect toward her mother’s memory. What compounded the situation was her husband’s indifference, as he failed to acknowledge her emotional distress or apologize for his mother’s actions, leaving her feeling unsupported and deeply hurt.
