
For my husband’s family, Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year, and each year it’s hosted at a different family member’s home. Since my husband and I just got married six months ago, it was our turn to host this year.
This Christmas was particularly special because his grandma was set to announce which grandchild would inherit her business as she’s finally ready to retire. Honestly? My husband and I weren’t really in the running for it, unlike his sister, who’s been buttering up their grandma nonstop.
So, all the guests were gathered in the living room, having a great time, when suddenly, my sister-in-law said, “Does anyone else smell something burning?” I rushed to the kitchen and found my turkey totally burned—the oven settings were way higher than what I’d set. Let’s be real—I had zero doubt she was behind it.
When I told everyone what had happened, my sister-in-law just laughed and made some snarky comment about “every hostess messing up now and then.” She even added, “Though I can’t recall anyone in our family making THIS kind of mistake.” Little did she know, she’d be leaving in tears just five minutes later.
