A heartwarming story unfolded at East Carolina University when a mother and daughter graduated together from the same nursing program, marking a special milestone in both their lives. Jessica Van Wagenen, a retired Marine, had put aside her own education to provide stability for her daughters, but with her children grown, she was able to pursue her nursing dreams alongside her daughter, Keelin.
Keelin, who admired her mother’s determination, expressed pride in the fact that they could share such a unique experience. Jessica, proud of both their achievements, shared the joy of accomplishing this goal together, noting how their bond grew stronger during their shared journey through nursing school.
Jessica now works as an operating room nurse, and Keelin serves as a pediatric nurse at ECU Health, both stepping confidently into their new careers. Their story is an inspiring reminder to never give up on one’s goals, no matter the challenges life presents.
