Saoírse Ruane, the brave girl from Galway who captured hearts nationwide with her 2020 appearance on the Late Late Toy Show, passed away at the age of 12 after a courageous battle with cancer. Diagnosed in 2019 with a rare bone cancer, her journey inspired countless people. Despite losing her leg and facing repeated cancer relapses, Saoírse’s strength, kindness, and determination left an indelible mark.
Her family shared the heartbreaking news, saying, “Our beautiful Saoírse took her last breath in our arms. She fought bravely and with dignity.” Tributes poured in from across Ireland, with President Michael D. Higgins, Tanaiste Micheal Martin, and others honoring her legacy. Ryan Tubridy, who became close to Saoírse, remembered her as “selfless, humble, and hopeful,” adding, “The world is a poorer place without her.”
Saoírse achieved dreams like visiting Old Trafford and Disneyland while inspiring the Toy Show Appeal, which helped thousands of children. Her funeral will take place on Sunday, March 8, at St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Kiltullagh. She will be remembered for her incredible courage and the joy she brought to so many lives.
