Celine Casey and her partner were very happy when their daughter Vienna Brookshaw was born in April 2021. Even though they were happy, they were worried about a scar on Vienna’s forehead. Vienna’s birthmark, called congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN), was a rare disease that didn’t hurt her health, but her parents were worried about how it might affect her as she grew up.
Casey, Vienna’s mother, was very worried about the scar. She knew that Vienna would make people look at her, and she didn’t want her daughter to feel bad about how she looked. Casey was worried, so she asked doctors if they could get rid of the scar. The NHS said no, because the surgery was only for looks and wasn’t necessary.

Casey didn’t give up and started an effort to raise money for the surgery. Very generous people gave over $52,000 in just 24 hours, which was a huge reaction. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospital costs went up, and the family still needed an extra $27,000 for the surgery.
Vienna’s birthmark has been totally removed by surgery, leaving only a small scar on her forehead. Casey keeps Vienna, her daughter, up to date on her progress every day, and it’s clear that the two-year-old is happy and healthy.
